Maintenance Routine
I perform 3 to 5-gallon water changes every week and any routine maintenance as needed. I am a bit obsessive tracking my water parameters when monitoring any changes and usually measuring and logging KH, Ca, pH, and Temp at least once a day. If I am not monitoring any changes, I test as needed at least once a week.
The following I use when introducing new corals into my reef tank. An added step you may want to do which I need to set up is use a quarantine tank to place new corals into for several weeks for observation prior to introducing into your main tank. This is an extra safety net to prevent addition of any pests into your main tank which can be very costly.

- Two Little Fishies ReVive Coral Cleaner – Use for all general purpose live coral cleansing, as a part of acclimation to aquariums. Mix 4 capfuls (40ml) of ReVive per gallon (3.8 L) of clean saltwater in a bucket or other container suitable for bathing coral. More information…
- Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Cure – an effective, harmless iodine treatment that kills parasites – including parasitic flatworms and spiders. Treatment consists of a 10-15 minute bath using tank water as bath. More information…
- Salifert Flatworm Exit – It is a safe solution to get rid of flatworms in your tank. It is perfectly harmless for the reef inhabitants, both fish and invertebrates, but definitely deadly for the flatworms. Flatworm body juice can be toxic for the reef when present in high concentration. More Information…
- Interceptor – Use to eradicate red bugs. I have not started using as requires convincing your veterinarian to prescribe this which is used on dogs. More Information…
