Observations

Still conducting my ZEOvit experiment seeing minimal results three weeks into it. May be related to skimmer not performing up to par so I adjusted it to skim a little more wet. As part of my ZEOvit experiment, I will be adding an additional reactor with the ZEOvit to see if that part of the ZEOvit system has any impact. There are arguments it has minimal impact in a marine environment and I want to test those arguments.

Reduced Vodka dosing from 2.5 ml/day to 2.0 ml/day as part of transition to ZEOvit supplements. Was seeing bacteria bloom on the glass so knew time to decrease again.

Conducted a 4 gallon water change. Did not need to change GFO but need to ensure it is not caking or I see numbers increase. Changed GAC as part of the monthly routine. Notice the skimmer was not skimming because the pump was plugged. Cleaned skimmer.

The air pump for my air stones stopped working and need to replace. Disappointing as it is only a few months old. Using it as part of solution to combat low pH due to high level of CO2 levels in house. Air pump was located on outside of house to import external air to tank. Will need to replace. Looking at a higher end pump but will replace with cheap brand until I want to invest in more expensive model.

Placed the LiterMeter III which is dosing Kalk top off on a RKE timer so it is only dosing during dark phase of the photo period to stabilize the pH swings. Will need to adjust the liters per day to compensate for the change. It was set at 3.40.

My orange hammer is seeing STN now it has been retracted since bumping it with the teal acro a couple months ago. I am afraid I am going to lose it. Acros are showing good polyp extension with some color returning after the Flatworm Exit treatment. Adjusted photo period from eight hours of daylight to six hours as before treatment was seeing washed out colors from the NEP T5s. Still hoping the other light bulb companies jump on board by October to make the 18w size bulbs for my 20 inch fixture as I am looking at replacing them by then or upgrade to a 24w fixture. I want to utilize better bulbs than those provided by Current. I really like my NEP T5 fixture and do not want to replace it. Looking at the ATI 24 inch 6 bulb fixture.

Running into an issue with my RKE as the timers not working properly. My RKE with the latest firmware version 1.11 not recognizing the DoW (day of week) settings. This is impacting my new settings for separate timers for weekend photo period.

RKE Shutdown

Icon Written by Geoff on March 6, 2009 – 2:04 pm

Added me to the list as just started today after I reset the Timers and Menus. Up to this point, I have not had this issue. Started receiving an email message from the NET module a couple hours after I performed the resets saying lost connection to RKE. Tonight when returned home and I watched it do it, I first got an alarm 4 on the screen before a complete shut down. It auto relaunched. The following is my alarm 4 setting:

4. High pH – Display 1
Device 1
Device: 03:pH
Value: 8.4
Trip: Above
Device 2
Device: None
Value: 0.0
Trip: Above
Device 3
Device: None
Value: 0.0
Trip: Above
Logic: AND
Alert: F – E

I did add an Alarm 5 early this morning prior to resetting Menus and Timers. Otherwise, Alarms 1 – 4 have been set since firmware 1.8.

Received messages “RKE system communication has been lost!” from the NET:
March 6, 2009 2:13:37 PM GMT-05:00
March 6, 2009 2:24:22 PM GMT-05:00
March 6, 2009 3:02:31 PM GMT-05:00
March 6, 2009 3:43:30 PM GMT-05:00
March 6, 2009 5:36:37 PM GMT-05:00
March 6, 2009 7:18:53 PM GMT-05:00

My intervention hitting FN key may have triggered these messages but I only remember hitting FN twice:
Alarm: 1 Cleared — March 6, 2009 7:19:05 PM GMT-05:00
Alarm: 2 Cleared — March 6, 2009 7:19:06 PM GMT-05:00
Alarm: 3 Cleared — March 6, 2009 7:19:07 PM GMT-05:00
Alarm: 4 Cleared — March 6, 2009 7:19:11 PM GMT-05:00
Alarm: 5 Cleared — March 6, 2009 7:19:12 PM GMT-05:00

Right after this I reset Alarms and have not reentered any at this point.

Since I added alarm 5 this morning and did not receive my first error message until 2:13 which was about 45 minutes after I reset the Menus and Timers, I suspect it was the reset which triggered the shut downs.

I had been running 1.10 production since 2/14 without encountering this issue.

Update 2/7 @ 12:03 a:
I did an Alarm Reset a few hours ago and did not have a shut down. I entered an alarm #5 and had a shut down less than 10 minutes later. My alarms were not a problem until I added the fifth alarm but have a theory it may just be adding an alarm or making a change to an alarm after 1.10 production firmware update as my alarms did not have issues until today when I messed with the alarms today. I will test more in morning adding alarms back in different spots. Right now did another Alarm reset so I don’t have to worry about it overnight.

If you are having this issue, it may be worth a try to perform an alarm reset and leave them alone until there is an update. All your alarms will be erased.

RKE Net Module: 414 Request-URI Too Long: Buffer overflow detected — Issue

Icon Written by Geoff on March 1, 2009 – 12:42 pm (1 comment)

  • Receiving this error message, 414 Request-URI Too Long: Buffer overflow detected, when trying to access the NET Module.
  • Data still available through RSS Feed.
  • Accessing from internal network address, I can access it directly.
  • The external network address results in same error message.
  • Microsoft website gives some details about this error message
  • This got me thinking it may be a browser specific problem reading the Microsoft information. Switching from Safari to Firefox, I can reach the external link using Firefox.
  • Relaunching Safari had no effect along with clearing cookies and caches.
  • Resetting Safari did the trick for a few access attempts after which the same error message would return.
  • Resetting Safari each time will temporary fix the issue with Safari. Not a real viable solution as it is a pain to lose all settings in Safari. Keep submitting Report Bug Reports to Apple but not seen a fix to their browser in any of the released updates. I am using Firefox as a permanent fix to this error message.

Reefkeeper Elite NET Module Installation

Icon Written by Geoff on February 19, 2009 – 11:10 am (5 comments)

Steps I took outside the NET Module installation instructions or specific to my set up:

  • Pre-Ordered NET Module 1/2/2009.
  • Ran ethernet cable from existing wall port to NET Module.
  • Received NET Module 2/18/2009.
  • Installed NET Module and connected ethernet cable. Could not get it to work with simple plug-n-play. Will wait to another day when I have more time. (Complete – 2/19 @ 9:34p, total time 30 minutes)
  • First issue I ran into which has nothing to with the NET Module, there seems to be an issue with the ethernet run to the tank as the diagnostic tool says there is a short somewhere. (Stopped – 2/20 @ 10:32p, total time 3 hours)
  • Resolved the cabling issue by running new Cat 5e through attic to communication box and then communication box to server rack. (Complete – 2/22 @ 3:34p, total time 6 hours)
  • Began configuring my set up to handle the NET module. Another issue I ran into which is specific to my network set up. I host my own web server which listens at port 80. I have to have my Linksys Router translate the port for the NET and did not know how to do that without asking. Figured out I needed to configure router with the following:
    net_portfwding

    Port Translation for HTTP

Now I can use the following URL to access the NET Module: http://JustMyReef.com:7001
    (Complete 2/22 @ 7:16p, total time 3 hours)

  • I have tried everything to get the email notification to work to no avail. Every setting is exactly as it is in my email program and it still does not work giving the error message Test Failed: Error 32769. (Gave Up 2/22 @ 9:18p, Total Time 2 hours)
  • I did successfully figure out how to post the feed in the Chemistry section with a little help of a WP plugin (WP-RSSImport). Yea!
  • Signed up for a signature generator at ReefChat.org:
  • Can not get the email notifications to work and am pleading with DA to determine what it is but realize it is not a priority compared with some of the other bugs they are addressing. I have tried three different accounts (one hosted, one on my server, and another my mac.com account) and all give same error code 32769 which is suppose to indicate bad port. I suspect this is wrong as I have confirmed with all settings to be set correctly. Below is setting for my local server configuration:
    net_portfwding2

Port Translation for the local SMTP server. NOTE: Ended up not needing to use this.

    net_emailnotification

NET Module Email Notification Configuration. Not used in final set up but used for testing.

  • Found the issue with the Email Notification configuration for the NET Module. It ended up being the data which was auto populated in the Network tab was incorrect:
    Incorrect Settings which auto populated.

    Incorrect Settings which auto populated.

Once I corrected the settings, changing the Gateway to the main router IP and then changing the Primary and Secondary DNS to settings as assigned by Verizon, I was able to successfully test the email settings which I originally had set up the first 10 minutes trying to attempt configuring email notification:

Correct Network Settings using network information from my main router.

Correct Network Settings using network information from my main router.

  • Installation Complete. Yea! (total time: too many to track, total time minus problem solving issues: 1 hour
